Couples
Therapy

Couples Therapy is unique in that the therapeutic work around it is a complex process of recognizing and working with the individual components while also integrating them into the bigger picture of a relationship. No relationship is without its imperfections or struggles, but having people agree to work collaboratively on issues that present in these relationships is the first step.

I work utilizing a no secrets methodology in couples work that prevents me from holding a secret from another person in the partnership. This methodology highlights the relationship rather than the individuals as the client. This means all partners need to agree to therapy and fill out paperwork for themselves. All individuals may be asked to speak with me privately at some point in order for me to better grasp the individual and combined nature of things that are occurring within the relationship.
Often, there is a reluctance to engage in couples therapy due to thoughts that the relationship problems are not that bad or therapy is only a last resort to "save the relationship". Research caution against this type of thinking as problems are far easier to fix earlier rather than later. There also tends to be worry that the therapist will not respect the religiosity, that the individual will be judged as a terrible partner, things will only be discussed in terms of emotions, or even fears that the therapist will side against you. I ask that you put these reservations aside as the focus of treatment is on making the relationship work for all those within the relationship in whatever manner works for them. Part of being in a partnership with another person is concession on both sides while building understanding of the person you are in a relationship with.

An initial discussion will occur before booking an appointment. I do not accept insurance for couples work for a variety of reasons but will provide you a superbill to submit for reimbursement. My cost for these services is similar to what is charged in the area by even master’s level practitioners (i.e., roughly $150). I offer sliding scales and payment plan options as needed. Please see the Contact page for more information on how to request an appointment directly.
